EUI Holds Her Founder's Day Ceremony

Prof. Marcel Okhakhu, the Master of the Ceremony, recognized the dignitaries that were present at the occasion. In the opening address, the Ag.Vice Chancellor, Prof. E.O Aluyor, welcomed the Executive Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, represented by his deputy, Rt Hon. Philip Shaibu, former Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, the Chairman of Council represented by Prof. Emeritus, T.O.K Audu, the guest speakers: Prof. F.O Okonofua and Barrister Augustine O. Alegeh, and other dignitaries. He informed the audience that the National Universities Commission (NUC) have approved the University’s Faculties of Medical Sciences, Engineering, and Law and that the University prioritizes qualitative man power and the use of multimedia in teaching and learning.

The guest speaker, Prof. F.E. Okonofua, the Vice Chancellor of Ondo State University of Medical Science, spoke on the “Challenges in Pioneering a new University in a resource constrained setting”. He opined that the country’s developmental challenges are many and that they include the fact that existing Universities are not able to find sustainable solutions. He admonished the government to encourage the establishment of more Universities in the nation. The second speaker, Barrister Augustine O. Alegeh, the Former President, Nigerian Bar Association, spoke on “Strengthening Democracy in Nigeria, the Role of the Judiciary". He defined judiciary as the arm of government that interprets Law and approach courts to settle disputes. Judiciary is the most direct contacts to Nigerians.

In his speech, the former Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, congratulated all the students, and urged them to take advantage of the rich learning resources of the University for their academic pursuit. The representative of the Executive Governor of Edo State, Rt Hon. Philip Shaibu, encouraged the University authority to maintain the world class facilities in the University, while congratulating the newly admitted students.

In his goodwill message, Prof. I. Onimawo, the Vice Chancelloe, Ambrose Alli University Epkoma, thanked the University Management and wished the students a successful academic sojourn.
