MANDATORY TRANSCRIPT SUBMISSION POLICY FOR Ph.D APPLICANTS:
Candidates applying for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) programmes must submit their official academic transcripts before admission can be granted. Transcripts must be forwarded directly by the awarding institution to the Registrar or Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies.

1.1Eligibility & General Admission Requirements
All applicants for Postgraduate programmes must satisfy all of the following universal conditions:
- O'Level Requirement: Possess a minimum of five (5) Credit passes at SSCE (WAEC / NECO / GCE 'O' Level), NABTEB, or approved equivalents, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two (2) sittings.
- National Service: A valid National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Discharge Certificate or an official Certificate of Exemption is mandatory for admission into all postgraduate programmes.
- Referee Reports: Candidates must nominate three (3) referees (at least two academic referees conversant with the candidate's academic capabilities) who must submit confidential online referee reports.
- Academic Transcripts: Official academic transcripts for all previous degrees/diplomas must be requested from the respective institutions and addressed to the Registrar / Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies, Edo State University, Iyamho .
(i) Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
Entry Requirements:
- First Degree not less than Third Class Honours in a relevant field from a recognized university.
- Higher National Diploma (HND) with Upper Credit pass in a relevant discipline from an accredited polytechnic.
- Candidates with HND (Lower Credit) in relevant fields plus substantial work experience may be considered.
- Recognized professional qualifications approved by the University Senate.
Duration: Min. 2 Semesters (1 Session) • Max. 4 Semesters.
(ii) Master's Degrees (M.Sc., M.Eng., M.A., MPA, MBA, LL.M)
Entry Requirements:
- Minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division) Bachelor's Degree in relevant discipline from a recognized university.
- Candidates with a relevant Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) with at least a Credit pass (minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 5-point scale).
- Professional Master's (e.g. MBA, MPA) require relevant work experience.
Duration: Min. 3 to 4 Semesters (18-24 mos); LL.M: 12 mos • Max. 6 Semesters.
(iii) Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.)
Entry Requirements:
- Candidate must hold a Master's degree in a relevant discipline with a weighted average score of not less than 50% (CGPA between 3.00 and 3.49 on a 5-point scale).
- Candidates with 55% - 59.9% (CGPA 3.50 - 3.99) may be considered for the M.Phil/Ph.D conversion pathway.
Duration: Min. 2 Semesters • Max. 4 Semesters.
(iv) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
Entry Requirements:
- Master's degree in relevant discipline with a weighted average score of 60% and above or (CGPA of not less than 4.00 on a 5-point scale).
- Submission of an approved Research Proposal / Statement of Purpose.
- Mandatory: Official transcript must be received before admission is granted.
Duration: Min. 6 Semesters (3 Sessions) • Max. 10 Semesters.

Pay the non-refundable application fee of ₦25,000 online via Remita using your debit card or print the payment invoice to pay at any commercial bank.

After successful payment, log in to complete your online bio-data, academic history, O'Level details, previous higher degree qualifications, class of degree, and graduation years.

Upload clear, scanned copies of your Degree/HND Certificates, NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificate, O'Level Result(s), and a recent passport photograph with a white background.

Supply full names and institutional email addresses of three (3) referees who will receive automated links to complete confidential referee reports online.

1.5Nature of the Screening & Selection Exercise
Ph.D & M.Phil Screening & Proposal Defense
Candidates applying for Ph.D and M.Phil programmes will undergo departmental proposal defenses and credentials verification.
- Mandatory: Receipt and verification of official undergraduate and master's degree transcripts.
- Assessment of the candidate's Statement of Research Intent and alignment with faculty research supervisors.
- Departmental oral or virtual interaction as scheduled by the respective faculties.
PGD & Master's Degree Online Evaluation
Applicants for PGD, M.Sc., M.Eng., M.A., MPA, MBA, and LL.M programmes are screened through comprehensive online evaluation of submitted credentials:
- Evaluation of bachelor's degree classification and CGPA transcripts.
- Verification of O'Level credits and NYSC discharge/exemption certification.
- Assessment of three (3) confidential referee reports.
1.6Important Notes & Legal Disclaimer
- All information supplied on the application portal must be accurate and verifiable. Discrepancies in names, dates of birth, or qualifications will lead to immediate disqualification.
- Admission offers must be accepted within two (2) weeks of notification on the portal by paying the prescribed acceptance fee; failure to do so may result in forfeiture of the offer.
